TRWD conservation program receives prestigious TCEQ award

By July 18, 2024

TRWD’s water conservation program, Learn and Grow, was recently awarded a 2024 Governor’s Texas Environmental Excellence Award by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

This prestigious award program helps inspire others to become better environmental stewards in their communities, and recognizes those who have implemented innovative projects geared toward environmental sustainability, preventing pollution and protecting the State of Texas.

“Over the last seven years the Learn and Grow program has reached more 57,000 people in 15 Tarrant County cities through fun conservation classes and events,” said Heather Bass, TRWD’s Conservation Supervisor. “We are proud of how this program has impacted the communities we serve, and are honored to be recognized with this prestigious award.”

The Learn and Grow Program is a water conservation education and outreach program primarily serving communities within Tarrant County. Its purpose is to educate the public on the importance of water conservation, sustainable landscaping techniques, and TRWD’s role as a regional, raw water supplier.

With assistance from the Tarrant County Master Gardener Association, participants learn ways to decrease outdoor water waste in their landscapes through in-person and virtual classes, workshops and events.
