Reservoir Monitoring Update

By May 31, 2024

Current Conditions

  • The TRWD watersheds received 1.5″ to 2.5″ in the past 24 hours. See Graphic-1 for rainfall totals.
  • Flood discharges are ongoing at Eagle Mountain, Richland-Chambers and Cedar Creek.

Projections

  • Lake Bridgeport
    • The Jacksboro gage is predicted to exceed 3,000 cfs for the first time since May 1, 2021!
    • The early projection is Bridgeport should rise another two feet to around elevation 828.
  • Eagle Mountain Lake
    • Discharge rate is near the inflow rate, meaning pool level is holding fairly constant.
    • It is possible that the pool level will slowly rise as additional runoff from the watershed trickles in.
    • Based on rainfall that has already been received and barring additional rainfall, the lake is not expected to rise above elevation 650.
  • Cedar Creek Reservoir
    • Pool has slowly risen the past day as runoff continues to flow to the pool
    • Barring additional rainfall, pool levels should begin trending downward this evening
  • Richland-Chambers Reservoir
    • Heavy rainfall in the upper part of the watershed near Italy, see Graphic-1, is making its way to the pool.
    • Levels are climbing and are expected to continue climbing through tomorrow.
    • Too early for a peak pool level projection at this time.

*Projections are subject to change and are based on past precipitation.

Looking Forward

Additional rain today and through the weekend are possible. There is a severe component to the storms, but chances are higher south of the TRWD service area. See the latest NWS Guidance on severe storms for today in Graphic-2. See NWS Guidance for Saturday storms in Graphic-3.  Bridgeport is more than 10 ft below conservation and has plenty of room to catch the runoff. The other TRWD lakes are over full. TRWD staff will continue to monitor conditions and flood discharges will be adjusted accordingly.

Please stay weather aware and follow our partners at the National Weather Service (NWS) and the River Forecast Center (RFC) for the latest information regarding weather and river conditions, respectively.
