Lake Level BlogReservoir Monitoring Update

Reservoir Monitoring Update

By May 30, 2024

Current Conditions

  • No significant rainfall recorded since the last Reservoir Monitoring Update.
  • Eagle Mountain Lake flood discharges are ongoing and pool is slowly rising.
  • East Texas lakes (Richland-Chambers and Cedar Creek) continue to make flood discharges.

Projections

  • Eagle Mountain Lake is above conservation and slowly rising as runoff from the Tuesday rainfall event continues to flow into the reservoir.
  • Runoff at the Boyd gage peaked overnight from Tuesday’s rain; travel time from Boyd to Eagle Mountain is about 8 to 12 hours.
  • Cedar Creek and Richland-Chambers are expected to remain fairly constant with a slight downward trend.

*Projections are subject to change and are based on past precipitation.

Looking Forward

Additional rainfall is expected today and tomorrow as a complex of storms sweep through the area. There is a severe component to the storms. Storms should start this morning in the metroplex and extend through the afternoon. A second round of storms are expected tonight into tomorrow. See the latest NWS Guidance on severe storms for today in Graphic-1. See timing of tonight storms in Graphic-2 from the latest NWS guidance.  Bridgeport is more than 11 ft below conservation and has plenty of room to catch the runoff. The other TRWD lakes are over full. TRWD staff will continue to monitor conditions and flood discharges will be adjusted accordingly.

Please stay weather aware and follow our partners at the National Weather Service (NWS) and the River Forecast Center (RFC) for the latest information regarding weather and river conditions, respectively.
