Instrumentation & Electrical Technician II

Salary: $39.38 – $49.23 per hour

 

Location: Fort Worth, TX

 

Position Summary:

Instrumentation & Electrical Technician II is responsible for the installing, calibrating, and troubleshooting instrumentation, control circuits, and other equipment associated with computerized control systems. They also are responsible for inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, performing startup of low, medium, and high voltage (120V to 138kV) electrical systems. They work as part of a team to assist with other duties such as asset management inspections, new construction inspections, and facilities electrical repairs.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

· Test faulty equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test equipment or software, and applying knowledge of the functional operation of electronic units and systems

· Study blueprints, schematics, manuals, or other specifications to determine installation procedures

· Keep maintenance logs that record performance problems, repairs, calibrations, or tests

· Perform scheduled preventive maintenance tasks, such as checking, cleaning, or repairing equipment, to detect and prevent problems

· Calibrate testing instruments and install or repair equipment to prescribed specifications

· Examine work orders and converse with SCADA operators, supervisors, or engineers to detect equipment problems and to ascertain whether mechanical or human errors contributed to the problems

· Coordinate efforts with other workers involved in installing or maintaining equipment or components

· Enter information into computer to copy program or to draw, modify, or store schematics, applying knowledge of software package used

· Maintain inventory of spare parts

· Advise management regarding asset performance or suggestions for asset improvements

· Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes

· Use a variety of tools or equipment, such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment, such as oscilloscopes, ammeters, or test lamps

· Inspect electrical systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes

· Prepare sketches/follow-up blueprints to determine the location of wiring or equipment, ensure conformance to building/safety codes and provide cost estimates for materials or services

· Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, or components, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem

· Direct or train workers to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures

· Repair or replace wiring, equipment, or fixtures, using hand tools or power tools

· Assemble, install, test, or maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, conduit, appliances, apparatus, or fixtures, using hand tools or power tools

· Perform business management duties, such as maintaining records or files, preparing reports, or ordering supplies or equipment

· Vegetation Maintenance: Maintain the safety and reliability of our electrical infrastructure by ensuring that trees and vegetation near powerlines are properly trimmed and cleared. Coordinate with the appropriate staff and/vendors regarding any identified overgrowth or hazards

· Operate equipment such as back hoes and trenchers

· Assist with floodway and facility electrical issue

· Perform data entry on work orders and for timekeeping

· Uphold safety standards and clean work environment

· Interact and coordinate with other TRWD personnel

· After hours Emergency Response

· Hazmat Response team

· Participate in applicable condition assessments

· Maintain familiarity with strategic district levels of service

· Continuous improvement monitoring and innovation efforts

· Perform other duties as required

 

Required Experience:

· Six (6) years of experience in electric field, or two (2) years of experience plus two (2) years in instrumentation or related degree/certification program

· Ability to read and interpret NEC books

· Ability to read, understand and modify electrical schematics and drawings as well as create and implement simple electrical designs

 

Desired Experience:

· Prior experience in a related field

· Experience hauling and backing utility trailers

 

Required Education/Certification/License:

· Electrical Journeyman License, or graduation from a two (2) year technical school or National Joint Apprenticeship program

· High School Diploma or GED

· Valid Texas driver’s license
