The George W. Shannon wetlands serves several vital functions for water supply, but they also have an added bonus of providing an exceptional habitat for wildlife. TRWD’s George W. Shannon Wetlands are home to Texas Parks and Wildlife’s Richland Creek Wildlife Management Area (WMA). Hunters travel to Richland Creek WMA from all over the region to experience some of the best duck hunting in the state. Public hunting is permitted for white-tailed deer, feral hog, squirrel, mourning dove, waterfowl, woodcock, gallinule, snipe, rabbits, and hares. All deer hunting, including archery hunts, is by special permit only.
