Did you know that TRWD’s George W. Shannon Wetlands are home to Texas Parks and Wildlife’s Richland Creek Wildlife Management Area (WMA). Richland Creek WMA is home to some of the best bird watching in Texas. Birders flock (pardon the pun, we had to) from far and wide to see migrating and wintering waterfowl, wading birds and shore birds. While the bird counts vary throughout the year, it has been reported that they have soared as high as 30,000 and Richland Creek WMA boasts 240 identified species (that’s 20 more than anywhere else in the state).
