SCADA Automation Support Specialist

Salary: $31.77 – $47.66 per hour

 

Location: Cedar Creek, TX

 

Position Summary:

The SCADA Automation Support Specialist position will be responsible for technical support and coordination of installation, development, and maintenance of TRWDs (District) industrial control systems, SCADA and Building Automation. This position will operate in both field and office environments, assisting with programming, system diagnostics, and project oversight.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and diagnose issues with the SCADA and Building Automation software and hardware platforms
  • Assist in developing, testing, and implementing small scale Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programming projects
  • Review project drawings and specifications and make recommendations to management for modifications, enhancements, or alternate design
  • Attend field inspection and project testing phases to evaluate SCADA system performance and adherence to District standards
  • Provide detailed feedback to the SCADA Automation Manager and team regarding project status and findings
  • Serve as a representative to the SCADA team during project meetings and site visits
  • Coordinate with vendors, consultants, and District departments to inspect, identify, and resolve pipeline operation issues
  • Maintain records of system configurations, updates and troubleshooting efforts
  • Prepare technical reports and summaries for management to review
  • Participate in training opportunities to stay updated on industry best practices and further develop skills and knowledge
  • Must be available to provide 24/7 support on location or remotely
  • Maintain familiarity with strategic District levels of service
  • Continuous improvement monitoring and innovation efforts
  • Perform other duties as required

 

Required Experience:

  • Five (5) years of experience working with SCADA systems, PLC programming, or industrial automation in a technical support or field role
  • Instrumentation or electrical field experience
  • Computer technology or related field experience
  • Must have excellent communication skills

 

Desired Experience:

  • Familiarity with water/wastewater SCADA systems or similar industries
  • Hands on experience with troubleshooting and maintaining SCADA related hardware and software with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)
  • Familiarity with Building Automation System platforms
  • Experience with project testing, field inspections, and project documentation review

 

Required Education/Certification/License:

  • Associate’s degree, or equivalent number of credit hours, in a related field (eg, Industrial Controls, SCADA, Instrumentation and Electrical, or Process Technology)
  • Valid Texas driver’s license

 

Desired Education/Certification/License:

  • Certifications in PLC programming, SCADA systems, or related automation technologies

  • Requires the ability to think and reason at a level such that response to emergency situations is appropriate and prompt
  • Ability to communicate clearly and decisively, especially during major events impacting pipeline operations

    • Requires use of sight, hearing, speech, hands and feet. Requires the ability to climb ladders and stairs and to periodically use hand tools in operating equipment
  • Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee typically resides within an office or cubicle and will have occasional field work that will expose the employee to weather conditions prevalent at the time.
    • Equipment used includes computers, calculators, and personal protective equipment when going out on site
