Reservoir Monitoring Update

By May 13, 2023

Rains have started in TRWD watersheds and TRWD staff is monitoring conditions. In the past 24 hours, Bridgeport watershed received most of the rain with isolated storms of 3″ to 4″ in the north end of the watershed, averaging 1.2″ of rain over the entire basin area. Eagle Mountain got 0.5″ on average. The East Texas lakes (Richland-Chambers and Cedar Creek) received only 0.1″ of rain. See Graphic-1 for rainfall totals over the past 24 hours.

The focus on flood continues to be at the East Texas lakes, with Richland-Chambers only 0.6 ft below conservation level (315 ft) and Cedar Creek already in flood operations. Additional rain is forecasted this weekend. Most of today’s rain is expected in East Texas and most of tomorrow’s rain is expected in the West Fork of the Trinity River (Bridgeport and Eagle Mountain). If rains materialize, flood discharges at the East Texas lakes will be adjusted accordingly.

Graphic-2 below shows a map of rainfall expected in the TRWD watersheds over the next five days. See Graphic-3 for NWS Guidance for the rain over the weekend. TRWD will continue to monitor conditions and will adjust operations at Cedar Creek as needed to safely return the lake level to 322.0.

Current TRWD lake conditions are shown below.  Updates regarding flood discharges from TRWD lakes will be posted here.  Additional updates regarding lake conditions will be provided as conditions dictate.  Be sure to subscribe to receive e-mail notification of any new Lake Level Blog posts.  You can also follow @TRWD_News on Twitter to receive Lake Level blog notifications.
