The 8th Annual TRWD Flyfest, a celebration of urban trout fishing, will take place again this year on March 11 on the banks of the Clear Fork of the Trinity River located near the intersection of Bryant Irvin and River Park Drive.
The family-friendly event, produced by Streams & Valleys (S&V) and Tarrant Regional Water District (TRWD), will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
TRWD will stock the river with 1,800 lbs. of rainbow trout prior to the event, which will also feature other fun activities such as the Coffee and Caddis Big Trout Contest, open fishing, kids’ activities, expert presentations, food trucks, live music and much more.
TRWD Flyfest will also include an appearance by Jahmicah Dawes, owner of Stephenville-based Slim Pickins Outfitters, recently highlighted in Texas Monthly. His shop, which opened in 2017, is the first Black-owned outdoors retailer in the country and geared toward adventurers who like to camp, hike and be outside.
“For more than 50 years, Streams & Valleys has advocated, protected, and helped improve the banks of the Trinity River so our community could enjoy our most valuable asset,” said S&V Board Member Wade Chappell. “Events like Flyfest are an invitation to engage with nature and do your part to keep our river healthy, safe and interactive for future generations.”
“We are excited to produce TRWD Flyfest again this year and celebrate what an incredible asset it has been and continues to be for our community,” said Dan Buhman, TRWD General Manager. “The Trinity River ties us together as a community and provides people numerous recreational opportunities that enhance our quality of life.”
TRWD Flyfest is made possible thanks to the support of presenting sponsors The Tradition and Coffee & Caddis / Los Pescadores, as well supporting sponsor City Center of Fort Worth.
TRWD Flyfest partners include Acme Brick, Amon G. Carter Foundation, Chef Juan Rodriguez – Magdalena’s and La Coqueta, Fatties on the Fly, Fort Worth Fly Fishers, Karl’s Fishing and Outdoors, Orvis, Slim Pickins Outfitters, Texas Council Fly Fishers International and The Hanover at Clearfork.
